A Celebration of Culture: McAllen’s MXLAN Interactive Arts and Music Festival

MXLAN is McAllen’s five-day interactive arts and music festival that celebrates the past, present and future culture of our region. Our goal is to make the event an authentic experience that ignites a spirit of adventure, experiences, and kinship.

We will bring thousands of visitors to McAllen to engage in unique experiences that celebrate our region’s ties to Mexico, but also the emerging Latino experience of the Rio Grande Valley and our unique food, music, and culture. Here is just a short list of some of the activities happening:

Wednesday-Sunday

The MXLAN Mercado is free and open to the public from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM. We will have over 150 Mexican Artisans and exhibitors. If you miss shopping and going to Mexico, this will be your chance to see and spend some money on some unique and one-of-a-kind gifts.

Wednesday 8:30 PM

The Neon Run, powered by Rio Grande Regional Hospital and Dick’s Sporting Goods, will be a fun family run starting at the McAllen Convention Center and finishing at Westside Park. The event includes a MXLAN t-shirt, medal, and glow gear. Cost is $30. You can register for the run at MXLAN.com

Wednesday – Friday 5:45 PM/Saturday – Sunday 1:00 PM & 3:30 PM

This is a cultural event that you don’t want to miss. The La Guelaguetza Performance from the state of Oaxaca is unique and reflects the Mesoamerican influence in Southern Mexico. Ticket prices range from $5 for kids to $10 and $15 for adults. The performances will be held in the beautiful McAllen Performing Arts Center. Tickets can be purchased on Ticket Master or at the Convention Center Box office.

Thursday-Sunday 8:15 PM

This event is FREE and open to the public and is a unique and distinctive way to experience the beautiful dances and colors from Oaxaca. The parade will travel around the Oval Park and spectators can join in the celebration.

Wednesday – Friday 8:30 PM /Saturday-Sunday 6:00 PM & 8:30 PM

If you have never experienced a Mexican circus before, you don’t want to miss the Circo Hermanos Vazquez experience. This best-known and highly rated circus uses no animals in their acts and brings both a Spanish and United States flair to their performances (think Cirque Du Soleil). Tickets can be purchased on Ticket Master.

Thursday 7:30 PM

At this event, you will taste some great food and variations of Mexican classics from 22 of McAllen’s greatest restaurants. Food, drink, and fun. McAllen is known for its great restaurants and eateries.  Tickets are $35 and can be purchased at Ticket Master.
