Ambassador of the Year and the GAC Meeting

McAllen Blog Logo
Every year we honor the Ambassador of the Year. The McAllen Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors play such a huge role in the success of the Chamber at so many different levels. The Ambassadors are really our “boots on the ground” and do such a fantastic job of connecting and welcoming new Chamber members and representing the business community to newcomers and existing businesses that are developing and reaching new markets.

There are over 100 active ambassadors with the McAllen Chamber of Commerce and they come from every business sector you can imagine. The ambassadors are the folks in the blue coats that show up to “make a difference.” The ambassadors take time out of their schedules to connect and welcome new businesses. They also are developing an extensive network of business contacts that enhances their networks. To earn the Blue Coat, an ambassador must bring in over $2,000 in new members.

Agustin “Augie” Lozano was selected as the Ambassador of the Year for 2017. Known as “Augie” to everybody far-and-wide, he works for the Bert Ogden Auto group as the public relation manger. Not only does he do a fantastic job of representing Bert Ogden, but he does a great job of representing what is the best about the business community in McAllen. Augie is warm, positive, friendly and makes people feel at ease, which is a gift. Mayor Jim Darling will tell you, “It is not an official ribbon cutting unless Augie is there.”

The Ambassadors of the McAllen Chamber of Commerce have my gratitude and appreciation for all they do to project a positive and dynamic business group to our community.

An upcoming event that you don’t want to miss is the McAllen Chamber of Commerce’s Governmental Affairs Council meeting scheduled for Wednesday, January 17 at noon at the McAllen Chamber of Commerce. Chaired by Dr. Fred Farias, who has extensive political contacts and relationships with a wide variety of state-wide elected officials, this meeting gives an up-close look at issues and trends impacting the business community.

Mayor Jim Darling will be the first speaker for a series of a meetings scheduled by the Governmental Affairs Council over the next six months. The mayor will lay out what he sees as the important issues impacting McAllen at the state level. To RSVP, call Gerry at 682-2871.
