What motivated you to start this business?

The biggest motivation to begin RGVAerial was the lack of aerial arts studios in the area.

What is the history of your business?

I had lived in McAllen since I was 14 years old but moved to Illinois for work. While I was away from my loved ones, I tried to look up new things to do. This is when I found my way to aerial arts. I fell in love with it and completed an aerial arts instructor certification. Soon after I started teaching.

Once I moved back to the Rio Grande Valley, I was disappointed to find out there were no aerial arts studios and no proper instruction for it. Soon after this realization, I was able to start teaching at an aerial yoga studio. Our classes became very popular, to the point where we did not have enough space for everyone that wanted to join.

Unfortunately, we had to take a break during 2020 because of the pandemic but in 2021, we were able to make a comeback. We taught classes in a CrossFit gym for a year, but we could only use the space four times a week. I wanted to teach more often and we decided to look for a space to open our own studio.

In October of 2022, RGVAerial proudly opened its doors to the public as the first official aerial arts studio in McAllen.

What product/special services do you offer?

RGVAerial LLC is a business that provides aerial arts classes. We also provide circus ambiance entertainment for various events. Aerial arts is a type of practice or performance in which artists perform dance and acrobatics while hanging from a fabric, a hoop, a trapeze or a hammock.

What makes your business product/service standout from the rest?

When I was imagining what type of business I wanted RGVAerial to be, I kept coming back to the idea of being an inclusive space for adults that wanted to try something new. I believe that as adults, we tend to believe new sports or hobbies are for children only. I wanted our studio to dismantle that belief and invite people to feel like a kid again. To create this type of space, we have to make sure we cultivate the right culture and encourage people to be supportive of everyone that comes to try our classes. As a result, we have built a beautiful community of people that not only support each other but also celebrate each other’s successes. Not only do our services stand out because of our supportive environment and beautiful community but also because of our professional and experienced instruction and our attention to safety.

As a small business owner, what does business means to you?

To me, business means the opportunity to provide a product or service that is in demand. By doing so, you are enriching the community, as residents can now locally access the product or service instead of having to go somewhere else to obtain it.

Are you involved in any initiatives that give back to the community? If so, please elaborate.
