What motivated you to start this business?

I’ve had a dream of opening my own business for a very long time. I love challenges and I knew this would be one I had to work very hard at. Two years before the pandemic, I shared the idea with my husband, who is very supportive. At the time, it just seemed like a dream, nearly impossible due to the circumstances we were in. I have a teaching degree and my husband is a pastor. I couldn’t leave my full-time teaching job to depend on a business that was just starting. The journey seemed daunting, but God changed everything around, closed doors that really hurt and opened new ones that I am still learning to understand. Thankfully, the opportunity presented itself and I found a brick-and-mortar store. Instead of dreaming about having our own business, we were dreaming of what that business could look like and what we could offer the community. I wanted to bring to the Rio Grande Valley, especially to the McAllen area, a boutique that when our customers and friends walked in, felt enchanting, unique and was filled with floral prints. Our shop is very small, but we hope to capitalize on other areas that will make us stand out. Morning Wildflower & Co is more than shopping. It is an experience where young girls and women can come in, love the brand and build a lasting relationship with us.

What is the history of your business?

In 2019, we started a small business called The Picnic Collection. It helped us get into the industry as we started curating picnics for special occasions. The Picnic Collection was a big hit, especially during the pandemic, since everyone still wanted to celebrate special occasions in a safe environment. Soon after, I started searching for a brick and mortar and praying for a good location. In September 2022, I found what is now Morning Wildflower & Co. On January 3, 2023 we finally opened for in person business. We are very excited about what the future will bring.

What product/special services do you offer?

We carry dresses, tops, bottoms, accessories, gifts, shoes and candles. In the future, we hope to design our own dresses and styles with unique and chic prints! Currently, we bring and select styles that have floral prints and/or are neutral. We carefully select everything and are conscious of sourcing products from designers who provide sustainable work.

What makes your business product/service standout from the rest?

Morning Wildflower & Co. stands out from the rest starting with our customer service. Our store provides fashionable, wearable, modest clothing. We love how we have created something so unique from something so small, but we believe that big things come from little things. My husband did an astounding job in transforming the space. I tell him: “God knew one day I would need a handy man in my life. So, he gave me you.” Thank you, Jose Alejandro Almera for your love and patience during this process!

As a small business owner, what does business means to you?

Business means taking care of our people. Leaving a positive first impression to all who step into our shop. It also means ignoring the trends and the conventional wisdom. If everybody else is already doing something one way, there’s a good chance we can find our own niche by going the opposite direction.
