What is the nearest airport?
McAllen International Airport (airport code MFE)

What airlines fly to McAllen?

Is airfare included in the price?
The prices listed do not include airfare.

Will there be guides?
Yes, each trip will have a minimum of one expert birding guide per van.

Should I bring my own water and snacks?
Water and snacks will be provided for the Rio Grande Valley field trips. A Boxed lunch will also be provided.

Will a step-ladder be provided to enter and exit vans?
Yes.

Where is the meeting point?
Each morning and afternoon everyone must meet at the entrance of Quinta Mazatlan located at 600 Sunset Ave. in McAllen, TX. Please check with the Front Desk of your hotel for shuttle transportation or you have the option of renting a car at one of several locations.

What kind of vehicles will be transporting us on the field trips?
We will use 15-passenger vans. Due to the boxed lunches, water, and snacks that each van will have to carry, van space is limited to 11 passengers (10 people plus one guide).

Are restroom facilities available at the various locations?
Some locations have public restrooms but may not be easily accessible. Please make sure you use the restroom prior to departure.

What type of clothing should I pack?
Weather in April can be warm. The best way to prepare is to dress in layers. Should you choose to wear shorts, please make sure wear insect repellent and to take necessary precautions against mosquitoes, chiggers, and other biting insects.

Should I worry about insects?
Mosquitoes are quite common during this time of the year due to the rains in March. The best precaution is to be prepared with plenty of Mosquito repellent. You may want to carry it with you to reapply. Chiggers are mainly found in tall grassy areas so be prepared by applying insect repellent with plenty of DEET.

Should I carry my medication with me on the field trips?
If you are on medication, please do not forget your medication. Once the vans depart for the day’s trip, the driver and guide will not be able to return for forgotten medication. Please make sure you carry it with you should you need to take it throughout the day.
